If we were to stop and think what was most important in church relationships, I do not think many Christians would come up with this quality: humility. ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom?’ ask the disciples. Christians are often preoccupied with that question. And, in sharp contrast to the disciples’ fascination with status and position, Jesus takes a little child and declares that greatness is to be found precisely there. The kingdom upturns secular values. Real greatness is not to be found in seeking to be praised and served by others, but in seeking others to serve.
